Hotel Rooftop Redevelopment | Rooftop Swimming Pool Addition

An 11-storey hotel was upgraded with a new steel rooftop structure and swimming pool. To support the substantial added weight without costly reinforcement of the existing vertical elements, Damptech implemented a base isolation approach, combining V-Shape rotational friction dampers with elastomeric bearings. This hybrid system effectively controls the dynamic response and lateral loads, safely accommodating the new rooftop facilities (the same system was also used in Japan — Damptech | Earthquake Protection).

Note: Rotational Friction Dampers can also be paired with friction pendulum bearings in a similar way.
