Rhombus Damper for Control of Cable Vibrations

Multi Unit Friction Damper with 4 Friction Joints

The Multi Unit Friction Dampers are configured in a Rhombus shape damper, that attached to cables to prevent cable vibrations and failure. Cables can swing up to 3 meters/ 10 feet on larger bridges, with the right combination of rain and wind, drastically reducing the lifespan and safety of the bridge.  Damptech produced stainless steel dampers to solve this problem, for either pedestrian bridges or large scale bridges.

BRIDGES AND ELEVATED HIGHWAYS

The Multi Unit Friction Dampers are placed between the bridge pier and deck for control of shocks, temperature expansion and earthquake movements.

The rotational friction damper performs superior to a viscous damper, since it is independent of frequency and magnitude earthquake, are NOT sensitive to temperature, and not subject to leakage.

Damptech has also created a damper that combines the benefits of the rotational friction damping with the vertical support of the elastomeric bearing.  Fully tested with research from 2010, Damptech's RFID (Rubber Bearing Friction Damper) is well suited for buildings base isolation, bridge base isolation, and isolation of non-structural components.
